About Andy Bass, PhD

Andy is the founder and principal of BassClusker Consulting. He works with expertise-based organizations that are acutely aware of the rapid pace of change in the world. Andy specialises in getting them ahead of the change, and he does it in an unusual way based on finding and using their Hidden Resources – strengths they and their people already have but may be overlooking.

Andy has written four books on his approaches, including Start With What Works: a faster way to grow your business, and Committed Action: the three-step method to inspire your people to take ownership and get results.

He has advised leaders on three continents and thirty industries, and has taught executives at Oxford Saïd, Aston and Warwick Business Schools.

Andy has worked across a wide range of industries and sectors including professional services, technology, media, health, financial services, packaging, automotive and education. The organizations he has worked with include Aon Risk Solutions, KPMG, DLA Piper, L’Oreal, AAH Pharmaceuticals, Rieke Packaging, and The Advanced Propulsion Centre. While based in the UK, Andy has worked on projects in the US, France, Germany, Finland, Mexico, India and China.

Renowned international authority on management consulting Alan Weiss says that: “Andy is that rare consulting talent who appreciates the synergy between strategic direction and committed support. He sees the job through until the client sees the practical results.”

Andy served on the ‘Big Thinkers’ panel of experts for #oglivychange, the innovative behavioural change practice of Ogilvy. He is an advisory board member for two fast growth companies in the Silverstone Technology Cluster through the Be The Business Organization, and has served as a mentor for start-up acccelerator Entrepreneurial Spark (supported by Nat West). He has served as a member of the West Midlands Regional Advisory Board of the leadership education charity Common Purpose, as a Board Director of the business lobbying and networking group Birmingham Forward, and is former advisor to the Birmingham Future Mentoring Scheme.

Andy is currently a director of Upcycle, a charity that reconditions furniture and prevents it ending up in landfill.

Andy has a PhD in Software Engineering from Aston University, and a BSc in Computer Science and Ergonomics (the application of human sciences, especially psychology, to design), also from Aston. He is a Visiting Professor in Consulting Practice at Birmingham City University in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment.

Outside of work, Andy has dabbled in the dangerous world of stand-up comedy (with decidedly mixed results!), and played lead guitar in a tribute band dedicated to the music of Canadian progressive rock band Rush.
